Hi Folks,
The CCS4 sounds like a group convicted on dodgy evidence for a crime they didn’t commit, but it’s actually UK Treasury-speak for the 4 proposed UK CCS demo plants:
“Senior sources concede the money for CCS4 was in jeopardy but insist that it is now safe.” Guardian (21 Sept)
Time will tell.
2) “Roadmap 2050: A practical guide to a prosperous, low-carbon Europe” by the European Climate Foundation has much about CCS.
3) “Energy shortage is a global concern” Telegraph (20 Sept)
UK Government “Energy Secretary Chris Huhne has just announced that any new coal-fired plants must be fitted with (as yet undeveloped) carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology”
4) An entertaining summary of the CCS session from GHGT10 is described in the Sept 24 edition of the Carbon Capture Journal.
5) I confess I’ve not read this fully yet, a report from NETL (USA) that might fill the gap between basic accounts of storage and academic textbooks:
“Geologic Storage Formation Classifications: understanding the importance and impacts on CCS opportunities in the United States”
6) Dear to the hearts of academics?
“Energy minister Huhne to battle Treasury over green skills funding”
UK Government energy secretary Chris Huhne said: “We need the right investment in STEM skills to compete in nuclear, renewable and carbon capture and storage markets.”
7) “Finance sector says ready to invest in CCS” EurActive (22 Sept)
“Private sector banks are ready to put money into carbon capture and storage projects (CCS) if they are viable without public funding, according to a new report released on Monday (20 September).”

“…the CCS Network Project encompasses demonstration projects that will fuel knowledge and understanding of how CCS can contribute to carbon dioxide emissions reduction.”
9) “Costs soar for Norway Mongstad CCS centre-paper” Reuters Africa (30 Sept)
“The budget … has risen to 6 billion crowns ($1.02 billion) from 700 million estimated in 2006…”

11) “German States To Oppose CO2 Storage Law” Spiegel Online (27 Sept)
“The German government is set to approve new rules this week that would require states to allow the construction of test facilities for underground carbon storage and capture. But two regional states plan to oppose the draft law in the Bundesrat upper house of parliament.”
