UK Carbon Capture and Storage Community Network

About us

The UK Carbon Capture and Storage Community Network (UKCCSC) is a collective of engineering, technological, natural, environmental, social and economic academics. The Network is a way to rapidly expand a UK research capacity in the area of carbon capture and storage (CCS), commensurate with the large potential contributions to national energy targets. UKCCSC Network is funded by RCUK.

UKCCSC has a number of functions and is intended to act as a 'one stop shop' providing advice to policy-makers, regulators and other stakeholders. It also supports UK researchers in existing international activities and encourages new collaborations, within the UK and/or with international partners, where appropriate. It contributes to sustaining a dynamic and stimulating R&D landscape that is accessible to any member of the UK academic community interested in contributing to research and innovation in CCS, including both early career researchers and established academics.

Our Objectives

  1. Provide an open forum for the academic community in the UK to share results from ongoing work on CCS, internally and with key stakeholders, including at major CCS community meetings held twice per year
  2. Develop and maintain online resources and a regular newsletter to encourage frequent communication between academic CCS researchers in the UK, facilitate effective dissemination of key research outcomes and support other stakeholder engagement activities
  3. Support early career researchers (postgraduate research students, post-doctoral staff and new lecturers) in their development through a targeted programme and participation in other UKCCSC activities
  4. Enable expansion of the academic CCS R&D community in the UK through active engagement of established academics who wish to broaden or redirect their skills to contribute to fundamental understanding and technology development in basic, strategic and/or applied R&D on CCS
  5. Provide a 'one stop' point of access to improve communication of key research outcomes from the UK CCS R&D community to a broad range of stakeholders including: - providing relevant and timely advice to policy-makers, regulators, industry and other stakeholders; - dissemination of knowledge within the international R&D community; and - public engagement including regular contributions to news media
  6. Strengthen existing international links and, where necessary, create new opportunities for dissemination of UK CCS R&D outcomes including by encouraging collaboration and developing strategic alliances with world-leading CCS researchers and institutions overseas
  7. Co-ordinate contributions from the academic community in shaping future priorities for the CCS R&D in the UK

Joining the UKCCSC Network

The Network is open to any member of the UK academic community interested in contributing to research and innovation in CCS, including both early career researchers and established academics. Network stakeholders in industry, government and NGOs are encouraged to join in many network activities and receive UKCCSC information. Send an email to ukccsc@ed.ac.uk with the word “subscribe” in the subject and include your name, organisation, email address, mailing address, phone number and area of interest within CCS to be added to our monthly newsletter mailings. We will also send periodic emails with information regarding upcoming CCS news and events.

UKCCS Community News

Newsletters sent out at approximately monthly intervals containing internal UKCCS community news, CCS developments  in the UK and elsewhere, and info on forthcoming meetings of interest to CCS researchers.
